What Happens When Gout Is Left Untreated

What will happen if Gout is left untreated? Or if the person with gout does not stop their alcohol intake? The simple truth is; the more it is untreated the more damage it causes until he is hurting all the time permanently. So, he doesn't have to be treated if he likes continuous pain for the rest of his life with no let up. He can also eat differently so his body doesn't form the waste in excess amounts to begin with. Like less protein and other things that lead to buildup of uric acid in the body.

They are on an acute gout medication for the onset of a flair up but refuses to stop drinking. The medication should help stop the gout attack. The alcohol causes the body to produce more uric acid. This makes it harder for the gout medication to work.

The alcohol consumption in most people will make the gout attacks more frequent. While it is best if they limit their drinking to no more than one drink a day, some people just are not going to do this. There is still plenty they can do to control their gout.

Some Few Things You Can Do For Your Gout

- Check out the Alkaline diet. By eating more alkaline-forming foods you can completely avoid flare-ups, but the predisposition/susceptibility is still there. For that, you need professional Homeopathic treatment which can cure the problem permanently.

- I read DMSO works, it works for me, although I haven't been diagnosed with gout the joint in my big toe was very painful and now(after 3 weeks) most of the pain is gone. Couldn't hurt to try.

- Clean up your diet! Best thing is to drink cherry juice!! Check out Cherribundi or CherryPharm!! Great stuff!!!

- If it's a foot keep it elevated and drink lots of water. No rich foods. Don't take Ibuprofen, use an aspirin product. Fruit juices and plenty of WATER. Gout is from eating way to rich foods and can be controlled by a healthy diet. Salads veggies and little red meat.

Natural Gout Remedies

- None-medicine things to try: drink tons of water, 1 oz for every 2 lbs of body weight daily. Eat lots of sour dairy: sour cream, cottage cheese, plain yogurt in smoothies mixes with orange juice, pineapple, frozen berries. Avoid beer, coffee, organ meats, high fructose corn syrup.

- Eat lots of fruits and veggies, veggies being potatoes, corn, carrots, and cabbage, avoid the dark green veggies.

Drugs, Herbs And Home Treaments For Gout - How Helpful Are Home Remedies For Gout?

I have gout and i was wondering how effective home remedies are in relieving inflammation caused by gout? If you have gout and have tried some effective home remedies that worked for you, maybe you could pass on that experience to me?

The above question was asked to us and I thought it will be good and answer it here:

Gout feels like someone took a hammer to your foot or like razors are slashing you or your foot is broken. I am extremely into herbs and natural treatments but have not found a gout remedy..of course lack of funds keeps me from buying/trying too much

I saw some ads and sites online that may or may not work for treating or reducing the pain caused by gout. I do not and have not taken any prescription or over the counter drugs for anything except maybe dental work/infection and if I go to hospital, but I do take cochicine and am grateful to have it. I have a little stockpile in case something happens and I can't get more. out
Drug details for Allopurinol

Drug details for Allopurinol after a neighbor told me of her side effects. So far to first sign I take a .6 mg cochicine and maybe one or two more that day. Within 2 or at most 3 days it is gone for some months and then returns. I cannot stand the pain and figure several tablets a year should not hurt me much. They just stopped making it but have a generic they now use that pharmacist says is the same drug

I once in great while take ibuprofen if I get an attack. Scared to take too much as said drugs caused permanent kidney damage in my mom and she had to go on dialysis which increased her risk of heart attacks greatly,. She never had any heart disease in about 77 years and in a year on dialysis had 9 in two years the last killing her (well really the hospital did with a drug they told me would kill here as they sent her to the palliative unit despite her doing better) but I am scared to wind up in her plight.

But I do take these two drugs on a very occasionally basis. Sometime allopathic is a great help but I really limit it whenever possible. There may well be something as effective but I have not had the money to try much but I am happy with the cochicine. It is a miracle worker for me in this instance.

A lot of people like numeric for inflammation. I do eat a pretty strong alkaline diet as already mentioned above being a vegan about 18 months and eating 50% raw and about 80-85% produce on most days but noticed no reduction in gout attacks. Once I messed up at a buffet and had quite a bit of meat and got an attack soon after; however, I also got them when eating vegan, no alcohol etc

I have read cherries and cherry juice help. My doctor said it had to be sour cherry but my research said any kind. I have some concentrate in the fridge and shelf but I always forget to use it when I need to.

Numerous Ways To Get rid of Gout - Prevent Terrible Gout While Taking Gout-Inducing Medicine Ethambutol For TB?

How do I prevent painful gout while taking a gout-inducing drug called Ethambutol for TB? I've taken Ethambutol for 5 weeks now, and have this severe gout pain for 5 weeks straight. What medicines should I take as an alternative to fight TB without inducing uric acid that caused gout?

The above question was asked to us and I thought it will be good and answer it here:

To start with, I wish I knew what meds you could take to fight TB without giving your body excess uric acid (or keeping your body from getting rid of it).

With that said, to fight gout, there are a couple of things you can do:

1- For gout attacks, indomethacine and/ or colchicine. You'll need scripts from your dr. for these.

2- Also, do these things daily: drink lots of water, 1 oz for every 2 lbs of body weight, each day. Once or twice a day, sip on 8 oz of water mixed with 1/2 tsp of baking soda. Helps the body be more alkaline (opposite of acidic) and get rid of uric acid.

3- Take allopurinol every day. Very inexpensive and no side effects, you'll need a script for this. Helps the body get rid of uric acid.

4- Take celery seed pills. These may help the liver not to create so much uric acid. For diet, stay away from things that dehydrate the body, like beer and coffee. Don't eat organ meats, high fructose corn syrup. Avoid beer; red wine occasionally is ok. Eat lots of fruits and veggies, cottage cheese, sour cream, plain yogurt in smoothies mixed with orange juice and fruit. Drink fruit juices that are 100% juice, V8 VFusion is my favorite, it comes in many flavors.

5- Educate yourself on foods that are high in purines, avoid these foods as the body turns purines into uric acid.

6- Black cherry juice, you can buy it at Henry's or Sprouts (health food store) It will be a little thick and dark red. It tastes sweet. You can add 2 table spoons to orange juice or cranberry juice, etc and it will prevent gout. If it doesn't cure you in the next 2 days then add Bragg's apple cider vinegar (get it at health food store) must be raw with the mother in it, add 2 teaspoons in juice. This will taste sour, but this combination will certainly cure your gout and prevent it. It works for my dad and other people he has run into with gout.

Do you want to permanently get rid of your gout? If you answered "YES", then I suggest you use the step-by-step system recommended in the Gout Remedy Report. The Gout Remedy Report is a great and effective manual with a natural plan that will completely treat any case of gout and stop it from recurring!

Numerous Ways To Get rid of Gout

What is The Difference Between Gout And Arthritis?

What is the main difference(s) between Gout and Arthritis? My late father had Gout, which mainly affected his knees, and was always getting grouchy when people claimed he was arthritic, saying it was totally different.

So, as his 27 year old son, I am concerned that I am going to get it, or already have gout. Bearing in mind that my father never drank port, or any of the other cliches, any suggestions as to how I could put it off as long as possible?

The above question was asked to us and I thought it will be good and answer it here:

What actually is gout?

Gout is fluid retention around joints. Arthritis is caused by degeneration of joints. So Uric Acid is what causes gout. Purines metabolize into uric acid. Foods that are high in purines include meat and fish. A study was actually conducted by Choi (im not really sure who this is but im sure you can dig a little deeper) which showed that meat purines put us at a larger risk for gout where vegetable purines don't have any effect on our risk.

My Uncle's gout story
An Uncle (by marriage) had gout. It would swell up in his feet and some days he had to stay in bed because it was so bad. He came from a well-to-do family, so it may have something to do with it. He ate and drank well all his life, and loved kidneys, oxtail, pigs trotters etc. If you refrain from doing what my Uncle did, you should be OK.

So What's the difference between gout and arthritis?

Arthritis is the cartilage wearing away. A lot of people have it, and they mostly have it in their arms, though some have it in their legs.

Arthritis is inflammation of the joints. There are many different kinds. Gout on the other hand is a specific kind of arthritis in which uric acid builds up in the joints. It can be excruciatingly painful. It is often but not always linked to diet (alcohol, oily fish, organ meats, high fat foods); sometimes a person has naturally high uric acid levels or has a problem eliminating them from their system. It can be inherited and men are more likely to be afflicted than females. These days it is usually well-controlled by medication. You may be able to prevent gout by avoiding alcohol, drinking lots of fluids and eating a low purine diet.

Oh how I hate gout! One effective treatment I have found is taking Allopurinol from the doctor. I take it through the flare up and for a couple of months after. Once clear, I put the rx down and just focus on my diet and exercise. As time goes by, eventually I will feel the first signs of its return, usually years later, and I start the allopurinol again for another couple of months. Aside from this, I am still to find a home remedy that works 100%, however you can try the 7 remedies recommended in the guide below.

Do you want to permanently do away with your gout? If you answered "YES", then I suggest you use the step-by-step system recommended in the Gout Remedy Report. The Gout Remedy Report is a great and effective manual with a natural plan that will completely treat any case of gout and stop it from recurring!

What Is The Best Treatment For Gout And Asteoarthritis?

If you're a gout patient, then it's assumed that you're already knowledgeable about excessive bodily production of uric acid and the necessity to reduce dietary purines, so I won't discuss those points.

Get more cherries in your diet, but stay away from those cheap canned or jarred cherries. Fresh or frozen are best. Juice concentrate might be OK, but its pasteurization destroys some of its benefricial flavonoids, which supposedly lower uric acid and reduce inflammation. Blueberries and blackberries may possibly provide the same benefit.

Drink 10-12 glasses per day of water, in order to help flush out uric acid crystals. Cut back or eliminate alcohol consumption, because it interferes with the removal of uric acid from the body.

Exposure to lead can cause gout. So have your doctor test your system for excessive lead levels. Metallic toxins can be removed from the body with a number of naturopathic/alternative remedies . Ask your doctor about chelation therapy treatments (usually via EDTA as chelator) as an alternative treatment for heavy metal removal. Calcium citrate supplements and calcium rich foods help to eliminate heavy metals.

Dairy products almonds, broccoli, collards, kale, legumes, oranges, sesame seeds, and tofu are rich in calcium. Also try to eat as many chlorophyll-rich dark greens as possible to help remove heavy metals from your body. Sodium alginate from seaweeds and apple cider vinegar are known to bind heavy metals. Supplementation with the mineral selenium is another way to reduce heavy metal load. Sulfur rich vegetables such as onions and garlic help to remove heavy metals from the body too. Sulfur is also found in dairy products; most concentrated in whey protein. A cheap and convenient form of sulfur is the supplement MSM, which provides a second benefit of anti-inflammation.

To reduce painful symptoms, you should definitely be on an anti-inflammatory diet supplemented with various anti-inflammatory agents.

Anti-inflammatory whole foods :

cabbage, ginger, basil, strawberry, black tea, blueberry, turmeric, rosemary, clove, cinnamon, sarsaparilla, citrus fruits, pineapple, cold ocean water fish (especially wild sockeye salmon), garlic, flax seeds, red onion, brocolli, red apple

Anti-inflammatory supplements :

bromelain, citrus bioflavonoids (often come with premium vitamin C tablets), MSM, S-adenosyl-methionine (SAMe), alpha lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10, vitamin C, quercetin, astaxanthin, silymarin

Anti-inflammatory herbal extracts :

milk thistle, boswellia, gugulipids, fish oil, high lignan flax seed oil (both ALA and lignan), blue-green algae such as spirulina, borage seed oil, black currant oil, evening primrose seed oil, yarrow, olive leaf, marshmallow, fennel fruit extract, pau d'arco, hawthorn, white willow bark, licorice root, and cat's claw.

What Foods Can You Eat When You Have Gout? - Best Gout Diet

My husband has gout too and all the research I have found tells you what NOT to eat but nothing tells you what would be good to eat to try to help prevent future attacks. There is one site from England that you have to pay to be a member and she swears that If you join, she will tell you recipes and things that will help, but I refuse to pay her huge fee to get very little.

She has a "free" e-mail that she will send and I got on that list for a while, but it gave you NOTHING for any tips or information and every time that you click on something to learn the magic answer, it directed you to her pay pal site so you could pay her annual fee to join her club. With her being off shore, you have no recourse if you are scammed. I did not fall for it or pay for it.

I have been asking and researching all over and so far the only thing I have found that people agree on is tart cherry juice to help prevent attacks. Several say that if you start your day with a glass of tart cherry juice, that it will help to prevent attacks. If an attack happens, they say that if you drink more tart cherry juice, it will help to get rid of the attack quicker than without it. The problem is that I can't get my husband to even drink one glass of it, not even once to give it a shot. He is so stubborn!

My next door neighbor is a biology professor and he has tried to find some more information on what can be eaten and even he hasn't been able to find much on the subject.

Stay away from a lot of proteins like red meats. Pork and Beef seem to hit my husband hard.

Turkey and chicken are better. We try to have at least one night a week without meat at all. One of our favorites is spaghetti. I dice up zucchini chunks into the sauce to give it more substance and it is really pretty good. I have read on a few lists that mushrooms will trigger a flare up, so I don't add any extra to the sauce.

He likes to take ramen noodles to work for his lunch. I have not seen these on any list so I assume they are ok. We will sometimes have them for dinner too with some shredded cabbage, carrots, zucchini, and any leftover chicken or turkey.
Turkey bacon is pretty good and we use ground turkey in things like spaghetti sauce and lasagna.

Gout is no laughing matter. It really is very painful. They are not just being babies when they complain about it.
